We’re excited to share a unique collaboration that brings together craft beer, high-altitude coffee and climate change adaptation in Nepal. In partnership with Bayonet Brewing of Northallerton, we’ve helped create Anukulana - a 6.2% Nepali Coffee Stout that’s rich and dark ands tells a much bigger story than what’s in the glass!

At the heart of this collaboration is coffee grown and roasted in our project area around Deusa and Waku, in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal. These high-altitude communities, better known as part of the wider Everest region, are increasingly producing exceptional coffee as a result of the work of The Glacier Trust and EcoHimal in supporting a move towards agroforestry. The beans used in this stout were not only grown there, but also roasted locally in the community roastery in Mukli, ensuring that more value stays within the community itself.

Farmers in Solukhumbu are on the frontline of climate change, facing shifting weather patterns, landslides, pests and increasingly unpredictable growing conditions. Supporting diversified, high-value tree crops like coffee is a key part of building resilience and creating sustainable livelihoods in these remote mountain regions. This is where collaborations like this one matter - connecting those communities to new audiences and markets in meaningful ways.

“Anukulana” means adaptation, which we think is a fitting name for a project rooted in helping communities respond to climate challenges. The result is a 6.2% coffee stout with bold, layered character, bringing together deep roasted coffee intensity, rich chocolate notes and subtle spice. Alongside the coffee, the spices used in the brew are also Nepali, adding another layer of authenticity and ensuring even more of the value and story remains rooted in the country of origin.

This isn’t just a collaboration - it’s a contribution. A portion of every can sold goes directly towards our work supporting communities in Nepal to adapt to climate change, from strengthening sustainable farming practices to supporting livelihoods and building long-term resilience in vulnerable areas.

Nepali coffee is still relatively unknown on the global stage, but it has enormous potential. Grown at altitude, often organically, and processed in small lots, it offers distinctive flavour profiles alongside a real opportunity for farmers to earn a better income. By growing, and roasting coffee locally alongside a range of other crops, communities in places like Deusa and Waku are able to retain more value and build stronger, more resilient local economies.

We’re incredibly proud to have worked with Alex at Bayonet Brewing on this project and are hugely thankful for his support. It’s a brilliant example of how creativity, craft and purpose can come together to create something meaningful. If you enjoy great beer and want to support climate resilience in Nepal, this is one worth seeking out.
