Following the devastating floods of 26 August 2026, EcoHimal Nepal has been working with local governments, community representatives and partner organisations to deliver emergency relief and to support the early recovery of affected communities across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
With generous support from donors, including The Glacier Trust's supporters (thank you!), EcoHimal has so far committed NPR 12,552,563 (approx. £62,000) towards the response. This has contributed to a much wider programme of assistance, coordinated with local partners and delivered using a zero-overhead approach, ensuring funds go directly towards supporting affected communities.
In Rasuwa, where damaged roads have made access particularly difficult, EcoHimal delivered essential hygiene materials, blankets, safe drinking water equipment and household supplies to Uttargaya Rural Municipality.
Working with the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Circle and Nepal Ganesh Hilfe, EcoHimal then provided relief packages to 67 families from Hakubesi who are currently living in temporary accommodation in Kathmandu. The packages included food, hygiene supplies, mattresses and household essentials, alongside sanitary kits for women and girls.
Support has also reached children whose education has been disrupted. At Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot, which was completely destroyed by the floods, EcoHimal has provided solar power and early childhood education materials. Further solar installations are underway or planned for schools, health posts and local government offices, helping restore essential services and access to electricity. Additional learning spaces and play equipment are also being arranged.
EcoHimal's field team continues to assess the needs of affected families, working closely with local authorities to identify priorities for recovery. These include safe shelter, clean water, education, agricultural livelihoods and reliable electricity. Plans also include providing solar systems to 100 households in Rasuwa and supporting local people to transport food supplies across the river.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Crowdfunder, we have transferred £10,000 to EcoHimal to help cover the costs of the activities listed above and described in the full report. Remaining funds raised through our appeal will be allocated to the longer term recovery programme and to our wider climate change resilience and adaptation work in Nepal.
Your donations are helping to provide practical support to families who have lost so much and are facing an incredibly difficult recovery. The work is far from over, and we will continue to share updates as it progresses.
